Architectural design for homes is a multidisciplinary art form that requires a thorough understanding of structural, mechanical, structural engineering and interior design. The building process involves multiple steps including conceptualization, planning, construction and implementation. Therefore, it is essential that homebuilders and homeowners work closely with their architects during the design process to ensure that their buildings are both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound.

The term architectural drafting refers to the process of creating original architectural designs- ranging from floor plans to building exterior structures- based on conceptualized blueprints. A draft or proposal is a preliminary version of an architectural design that will serve as a guideline during the design phase. Homeowners who plan to build new homes may also want to consult architects since they can create more elaborate designs than homeowners can themselves. Architects have years of experience and training in architecture, construction and design which allow them to create high-quality designs quickly. Additionally, professional architectural drafting software allows them to use computerized drafting equipment and 3D modeling capabilities to create fully functional designs.

Generally speaking, there are three types of architectural designs that homeowners require: residential, commercial and public buildings. Each type involves distinct construction materials and interior design elements depending on the intended use of the building. For example, a swimming pool requires a different type of construction material than a bathroom, which requires a different type of construction material than a kitchen. Therefore, it is essential for homeowners who plan to remodel their homes to collaborate with their architects during the renovation process so they can achieve aesthetically pleasing results while adhering to their budget constraints.

When designing new structures, architects usually follow an established timeline based on the nature of the project. For example, designing a home ranges from several months to several years depending on the complexity of the project. Placing furniture in an already constructed room takes much less time as compared to building an entire room from scratch. Once design plans are finalized, they are sent out for bidding by contractors who will implement them within the specified timeline. After implementations are completed, contractors may need additional time to make necessary changes or repairs before passing inspection and releasing the completed work. It is important for homeowners to know when their architects expect their renovations to be completed so they can plan around the construction schedule.

Having an experienced architect on call for your home projects ensures that your chosen aesthetic will be both feasible and structurally sound at all times. Working with an architect early in the planning stage ensures that all pertinent construction specifications are agreed upon and understood by both parties so that draft proposals can be finalized easily. Implementing new architectural designs after remodels ensures that your home looks its best while keeping you— and your family— safe both day and night..

An ADU is a small size dwelling unit that is typically attached to a main residence.

Adjacent Residential Units (ADUs) are residential units that are located on the same lot as a single-family home. These self-contained homes have their own entrances, full kitchens and bathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms, but are much smaller in scale than the main residences. There are three types of ADUs:

Adjacent Dwelling Units (ADUs) are small dwellings on the same property as or attached to a detached house. For example, this could be an apartment above a garage, a basement apartment, or a single-family home in the backyard. ADUs can be used to house family members or to earn additional income through rent.

ADU is also known as an in-law or mother-in-law unit, second family unit, granny flat or carriage house. ADUs usually have their own kitchen, living area and separate entrance. ADUs can be attached to a house or garage, or built as a stand-alone unit, but typically use the main house’s water and power connections.

ADU’s can have a variety of uses, including as secondary residences, retirement homes, or child care facilities.

Internal, attached and independent ADUs all have the potential to increase housing affordability (for both homeowners and renters), create broader housing options within the community, allow seniors to stay close to their families as they age, and Better living use existing housing stock in established communities. As a result, many cities and counties expressed support for ADUs in planning and passed zoning regulations that allow ADUs to be built in low-density residential areas.

From Fonzie’s condo to Happy Days garage to those lovely backyard vacation homes, you’ve probably come across ADUs before. They go by many names—in-law suites, granny flats, cottages or lane houses—but in architectural lingo, they are called edge dwelling units.

Another factor contributing to the popularity of ADUs is the growing interest in multi-generational housing and the ability to accommodate sick and aging family members. A 2018 AARP survey found that adults over 50 are primarily interested in friends or relatives who need care or are looking for a new place to live. Younger families use the ADU as a possible home for older relatives, either as a permanent home or as a comfortable place for long-term visits. ADUs are also being considered for nursing homes.
